How to check a Pokémon’s EVs in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Effort pays off in the end.

EVs or effort points are hidden values your Pokémon’s stats gain when it defeats other species. For example, if you defeated a Murkrow, the Pokémon that dealt the final blow would gain +1 Speed EV. Every four EVs is an additional point toward a stat. Since each Pokémon can only have a maximum of 252 EVs, you must carefully manage its distribution. Here’s how to check your Pokémon’s EVs in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Where can I see my Pokémon’s EVs in Scarlet & Violet?

You can check your Pokémon’s EVs as soon as the beginning of the game. Here’s how:

  1. Open your Pokémon’s status summary.
  2. Move to the Moves and Stats tab.
  3. Press L to switch the stat graph to the EV graph.

The darker yellow shape is your EV distribution. The larger, more faded yellow is your Pokémon’s base stats (or the numbers you see on the Moves & Stats tab).

If you want to know whether your Pokémon can still gain more EVs, head to Levincia (where Iono’s gym is) and search for an NPC with a Luxio with her. She’ll tell you if your Pokémon can give “more effort” or not.

How to reset EVs in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

If you’ve messed up EV distribution along the way, don’t worry. You can reset the distributions of EVs for each stat. You just need to use one of six specific types of berries on your Pokémon:

  • Pomeg Berry: Reduces HP EVs by 10
  • Kelpsy Berry: Reduces Attack EVs by 10
  • Hondew Berry: Reduces Sp. Atk EVs by 10
  • Qualot Berry: Reduces Defense EVs by 10
  • Grepa Berry: Reduces Sp. Def EVs by 10
  • Tamato Berry: Reduces Speed EVs by 10

You can find many of these lying around Paldea (they’re usually the Sparkles in grassy lands). However, an auction merchant in Porto Marinada sells a specific EV berry in bulk on some days. So, check what he has and purchase them if they’re what you need!
